Trees improve water quality by slowing and filtering rain water as well as protecting aquifers and watersheds.
Tree Planting at Montour Woods
Join Tree Pittsburgh and the Hollow Oak Land Trust this Earth Day as we work to restore healthy forest to the former Nike Missile launch site at Montour Woods!
This former military site has become choked with invasive vines and shrubs. Together we will work to remove these invasive plants and replace them with native trees grown at our very own Tree Pittsburgh Heritage Nursery!
Activities will include:
- Using loppers and saws to cut oriental bittersweet vine from canopy trees
- Digging up and/or cutting down invasive shrubs such as privet and bush honeysuckle
- Planting native trees
This will be a fun event in a unique environment, and a great way to celebrate Earth Day!
The work will be rugged and you will get dirty! Please wear sturdy footwear and clothing that is appropriate for the weather.
Appropriate for children 12 and up, with an accompanying adult.
Coffee and a light breakfast provided.
This event was made possible by National Fish and Wildlife Foundation - Five Star and Urban Waters Restoration Program
