Danielle Crumrine, Executive Director

For more than ten years, Danielle has worked in various capacities in the Pittsburgh environmental community. In addition to serving as TreePittsburgh's Executive Director, she is a leader in the Urban Ecology Collaborative where she helped to lead such projects as MERGE: Methods to Engage Residents and Grassroots in the Environment, the Green Forum, and the first-ever Three Rivers Bioneers Conference.  

Prior to joining Tree Pittsburgh in 2007, she was the founding Board President and Executive Director of Allegheny CleanWays, a group dedicated to empowering people to fight illegal dumping and littering in Allegheny County.

Danielle was recently named a top 40 under 40 environmental leader across the state of Pennsylvania by the PA Environmental Council, and in 2011, she was elected to the Board of Directors the Alliance for Community Trees - the only national organization solely focused on the needs of those engaged in urban forestry.  

Matthew Erb, Directory of Urban Forestry, ISA Certified Arborist

As the Director of Urban Forestry, Matt manages Tree Pittsburgh's planting, stewardship and nursery programs amongst others. With the completion of the Pittsburgh Urban Forest Master Plan in 2012, he is focused on strategies for implementation of that plan. Matt has a BS in Forestry from Penn State University, is an ISA Certified Arborist and was the first ISA Municipal Specialist in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In 2009 he was appointed by Mayor Luke Ravenstahl to the Pittsburgh Shade Tree Commission. He sits on the board of directors for the Pennsylvania Delaware Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture. In 2013, he was elected Vice President of the Pennsylvania Urban and Community Forestry Council. Before joining Tree Pittsburgh, Matt worked for a private urban forestry consulting firm completing tree inventories across the country.

SallyJoe Guzik, Community Partnerships & Volunteer Coordinator

SallyJoe joined Tree Pittsburgh in the fall of 2008 as a work-study intern. Since then, she has worked as Program Assistant, Tree Care Assistant, Volunteer & Membership Coordinator, and currently is Tree Pittsburgh's  Community Partnerships and Volunteer Coordinator.

In 2007, SallyJoe completed a Student Conservation Association national crew in Del-Rio, Texas building Amistad Recreation Area’s first hiking trail, where she received the Presidential Service Award for outstanding volunteer service. SallyJoe studied at Chatham University with focuses in Women’s Studies, Spanish and Latin American Studies, and Environmental Studies. SallyJoe is a member of the Reuse Technology Collaborative aiding in the implementation of Salesforce for non-profits.  In 2013, she partnered with Pittsburgh Cares in creating the Volunteer Coordinator Collaborative, which allows non-profits to effectively communicate best practices for volunteer management

SallyJoe is active in the Pittsburgh community working as a doula, childcare provider, writer, and Spanish tutor.

Jake Milofsky, Tree Care and Restoration Coordinator

Jake joined Tree Pittsburgh in the summer of 2011 to act as Tree Care and Restoration Coordinator. Jake's responsibilities are to work closely with community members, the City of Pittsburgh, and industry partners to facilitate tree care activities in the field. Jake also provides technical support for communities interested in conducting ecological restoration activities in their local green spaces.

A Squirrel Hill native, Jake received a BA in Environmental Studies from Bucknell University and a Master's in Environmental Horticulture with a Certificate in Ecological Restoration from the University of Washington in Seattle. Jake is an ISA certified arborist, and he currently holds a volunteer board position with the Pittsburgh Trails Advocacy Group. Previously, Jake has worked as a Program Coordinator with SCA and a Field Ecologist with the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy. In his spare time, Jake likes to juggle and work on DIY construction projects.

Joe Stavish, Community Education Coordinator

As Community Education Coordinator, Joe develops and implements all educational programming and outreach initiatives to educate and engage City residents around tree care, planting, and advocacy. He will continue to build community relationships that promote and support Tree Tenders across City neighborhoods. Joe maintains the teacher resources page and provides monthly educational articles.

A resident of Butler County, Joe received a BS in Natural Resource Management from Slippery Rock University with an emphasis in Environmental Education. Previously, Joe worked as Education Director at Powdermill Nature Reserve, the 2,200 acre field research station of Carnegie Museum of Natural History. He has enjoyed employment with the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania and the Allegheny County Parks Department.

Joe is a published wildlife artist and an avid vegetable gardener. His favorite superhero is the hulk.

Kevin Geider, Chief Financial Officer

Kevin joined Tree Pittsburgh in November 2011 as a result of our participation in “The Environmental Finance Collaborative,” a collaborative model that will provide four environmental organizations with high level strategic and operational financial expertise via a shared Chief Financial Officer.  Our partners in this initiative are Construction Junction, GTECH Strategies and Nine Mile Run Watershed Association. 

Kevin is responsible for providing operational financial expertise and oversight, budgeting and business planning, support for the Finance Committee of the Board and the adoption of best practices in financial management.

Prior to joining Tree Pittsburgh, Kevin spent 10 years with H.J. Heinz Company World Headquarters in a variety of Finance roles and 7 years in the audit practice of a regional CPA firm.   He is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University with a BS in Real Estate Finance. Additionally, Kevin serves as the Vice President of the Board of Pittsburgh Irish and Classical Theatre, where he chairs the Finance Committee. He is a founding member of the East End Supper Club.

Maggie Graham, Communications Coordinator

Maggie joined Tree Pittsburgh in November of 2012 as part of a shared communications partnership with East Liberty Development, Inc. As Communications Coordinator, she is responsible for all Tree Pittsburgh communications, including social media and press inquiries.

Maggie came to Pittsburgh in the fall of 2010 to participate in the Pittsburgh Urban Leadership Service Experience. PULSE cultivates a community of servant leaders to transform Pittsburgh by placing talented university graduates at nonprofits throughout the city for a year service and professional development. Maggie was placed at ELDI and served as a PULSE fellow for two years before joining the staff in August of 2010.

In addition to her work at Tree Pittsburgh and ELDI, Maggie serves on the Young Professional Board for Get Involved!, Inc. She is an avid baker and knitter with a passion for all things Pittsburgh. She graduated from a small liberal arts university with a BA in Communications (Public Relations) and Sociology.

Eli Nesson, Office Manager

A recent Pittsburgh transplant, Eli has been with Tree Pittsburgh since November of 2012. He also works for GTECH Strategies in a collaborative effort to share resources between nonprofit organizations. Prior to coming to Pittsburgh, Eli worked at Economic Opportunity Studies in Washington, D.C., supporting the Department of Energy's Weatherization Assistance Program.

Eli earned his BA at the University of Maryland. When he's not working for Tree Pittsburgh and GTECH, Eli likes barbecuing and baseball.

Rose Smiechowski, Program Assistant

Rose began working with Tree Pittsburgh in the fall of 2011 as a program assistant, aiding staff with various Tree Pittsburgh projects. She is an Environmental Science major at Chatham University and has been active in a number of environmental roles. She serves as an Eco-Rep with her residence hall council, participates in a number of environmental clubs, has volunteered with an organic garden co-op, completed the PA New Leadership program, and has completed conservation work on the Galapagos Islands. Rose’s interests include forestry, agriculture and food-supply issues, environmental toxicology, and environmental activism.

Nick Lubecki, Nursery Staff

Nick began working at Tree Pittsburgh in the spring of 2011 and helped to get the tree seedling nursery started. Under Nick's supervision, the nursery has grown from a vacant lot to a thriving nursery with over 7,000 trees in 2013! Nick has a background in agriculture and has worked on organic farms in addition to his work at the nursery. He splits his time between Tree Pittsburgh and his new vegetable farm, Butter Hill Farm, located in Allison Park. Nick earned a BA from the University of Pittsburgh in 2006 and has lived in Pittsburgh for over ten years. A big plant geek, avid forager and outdoors person, he is often wandering around the woods of Western Pennsylvania.

Miles Dinnen, Nursery Staff

Miles is originally from the Pittsburgh area and now resides in Millvale. He has been working with gardens, farms and trees since 2007 in Pittsburgh with the Landslide Community Farm and Tree Pittsburgh, and in Missouri with the East Wind Community, Sandhill Farm, and Oran Mor. As a Seasonal Tree Nursery worker for Tree Pittsburgh, he is excited to work more closely with trees and other tree enthusiasts. When not working with trees, Miles works with kids as a therapist and writes.
